CHANDIGARH—In a shocking revelation on January 30, family members of gangsters Vicky Gounder and Sukha Kahlwan have named the Congress leaders Avtar Henry and Avtar Junior for encouraging Punjabi youth to become gangsters. Vicky Gounder’s kin have alleged that Gounder entered into the world of crime after killing a man with whom Henry’s Jalandhar-based firm had a financial dispute.

It is pertinent to note here that Jalandhar based Avtar Henry is owner of the renowned Kartar Transport in Punjab. Tales of his political approach in handling issues related to his Transport are well known in Punjab.
Interacting with media on January 30, Gounder’s father Mehal Singh and maternal uncle Gurbhej Singh alleged that Vicky had killed a man in Jalandhar over the collection of money for Henry’s finance company when he was studying in Sports College of Jalandhar. “Later, when Gounder was arrested in Tarn Taran, Henry had gone to meet him in a Jalandhar court. Henry also went to meet him in Nabha jail twice before the state elections. People like Sukha Kahlwan and others were also in Henry’s contact,” they added.
Shiromani Akali Dal affiliated parliamentarians have also sought indictment of Congress leaders Avtar Henry and Avtar Junior for encouraging youth of Punjab towards gangster culture and misusing them for his own benefits. They have appealed the Governor of Punjab to take immediate notice of truths disclosed by Grandfather of Sukha Kahlwan and father of Vicky Gounder and direct the Punjab government to indict concerned Congress leaders.
Meanwhile, Avtar Henry has refuted the allegations levelled by the family members of deceased gangsters’ family members. He has said that the families were concocting a false story. “I had never met Gounder or Sukha Kahlwan. I don’t even own any finance company. I am a transporter like many others, but it doesn’t mean I have connections with gangsters,” he said while interacting with media.
