KHADOOR SAHIB, Punjab—Former Congress MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki who resigned from the post against sacrilege of holy ‘Bir’ of Guru Granth Sahib in Tarn Taran village, is not likely to contest the bypoll of Khadoor Sahib assembly segment which is slated for February 13.

This information has been revealed by the sources which are very close to him.

The segment fell vacant following Sikki’s resignation and it was being speculated that Congress would again field him, but Sikh24’s internal sources said he has refused to party leadership to do so questioning that on which basis he should contest the election as the issue on which he had resigned is unresolved.

He has reportedly questioned to the party high command as to how should he contest the election for the post from which he resigned against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. He reportedly said the Indian polity had failed to nab the elements who commit sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. “In this case, being a Sikh, I cannot contest the election”, he added as revealed by the sources.

It is different matter that the high command may force him to do so, decision of which would came within a day or two.
