
AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—In protest of serial incidents of desecrating Sri Guru Granth Sahib across Punjab, SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar has decided to move in adherence with resolution passed by Sikh devotees of observing ‘Black Diwali’ this year. In a bid to express consent with the Sikh devotees, SGPC President yesterday announced to not to perform fireworks and ceremonial lighting at Sri Harmandir Sahib on the occasion of birthday anniversary of Guru Ram Daas Ji.
Expressing his hurt over the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Avtar Makkar also announced for fireworks and candles not to be lit on ‘Bandi Shorh Diwas’ on November 11. Terming Sri Guru Granth Sahib as a path enlightener for humanity, he appealed to masses to refrain from having fireworks on the two historical days. President Makkar announced the decision after discussing the matter with the management of SGPC in a closed door meeting.
The firework and ceremonial lighting on the birthday anniversary of Guru Ram Daas Ji and on ‘Bandi Shorh’ attracts pilgrims from all over the world.
Meanwhile, Avtar Makkar has kept stum about the ongoing crisis in Punjab and refused to make any comment about the Panthik gathering of Bargari.
