2014-09-30- derby museumDERBY, UK (September 30, 2014)—The National Sikh Museum, Derby, has been instructed to seek the first-hand written scriptures by the Sikh Gurus.

The scriptures are thought to have been looted by the Indian state during Operation Blue Star in 1984.

Blue Star was the systematic Indian army attack on Harmandir Sahib, for the alleged purpose of removing militants from the complex. Thousands of troops entered and desecrated the complex buildings on the martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjun Dev Ji, killing many thousands of Sikh pilgrims.

The Sikh Reference Library and Museum, containing many priceless historical artefacts and hand-written documents by Guru Sahib, was burned down in the attack, and the irreplaceable artefacts were thought to be lost.

However, while it was previously thought that the hand-written scriptures were destroyed in the fire, many have suggested that they were looted and their retrieval is possible.

CHANDIGARH, Punjab (September 30, 2014)—The Punjab and Haryana High Court has acquitted Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara in the attempted case of assassinating former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal in 1995.  Bhai Hawara, along with four others, were sentenced to 10 years in prison in the case.

At that time, Bhai Hawara was already imprisoned in Chandigarh’s High Security Burail Jail.  In addition to Bhai Hawara, the four others who have now been fully acquitted include Hukam Singh, Malak Singh, Kulbir Singh, and Gurjeet Singh.

The prosecution had alleged that Bhai Hawara and his aides had conspired to kill Bhajan Lal in 1995 when the former chief minister was travelling in Narwana, Haryana.  A fabricated case was made up in which the police alleged that on December 14, 1995, gunshots were fired by the Sikh freedom fighters when they were stopped at a check point.

Bhai Hawara, along with Bhai Paramjit Singh Bheora were alleged as the main conspirators plotting the assassination of Bhajan Lal at a public rally.  Police had further fabricated evidence that Kulbir Singh was going to act as a human bomb.

Former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal was responsible for committing human rights violations against Sikhs living in Haryana.  Many Sikhs were murdered in fake encounters during his tenure as Haryana Chief Minster.

SRI MUKTSAR SAHIB, Punjab (October 1, 2014)—Punjab Government has appointed Manjinder Singh Bittu, son of Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, as chairman of market committee of Bariwal. Bittu is local leader of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).

He passed his gratitude towards Punjab CM Parkash Badal and Deputy-CM Sukhbir Badal for ensuring his appointment. He said he would take care of the responsibility sincerely and work for the welfare of people of the area under his jurisdiction.

He added that his main motive was to upgrade link roads and provide facilities to people especially to those belong to farmer community.

It is pertinent to mention that Giani Gurbachan Singh faces criticism for playing a biased role as a head of the supreme temporal seat of Sikhs as he has been taking the side of SAD (B). By appointing his son to such an important post, Badal has gave him his prize for his loyalty.

Sikh Youth of Punjab Address Issues of Drugs, Disrespect to Women and Yellow Literature

SYPSRI AMRITSAR, Punjab (October 1, 2014)—Realizing that excellence and activism is the need of the hour, the young activist boys and girls gathered at a call of Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP) on Tuesday. They resolved that they would address the issues of drug menace, disrespect to women and yellow literature with persuasion, education and arming residents of Punjab with knowledge.

They declared they would not allow Punjab to be consumed by drugs and asserted that personal responsibility was a pre-requisite to tackle this bull by the horns.

“As a united voice with a proactive agenda we, the tomorrow of Punjab, will bring change in the little world we live in,” reads the resolution adopted during the youth conference organized by SYP on the outskirts of Guru Nanak Dev University.

The speakers, mainly SGPC members Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, Prof Jagmohan Singh and Prof Inderjit Singh Gogoani, felt that the society was facing attack from the dirty nexus of politicians-police-smugglers who work under the cloak of various socio-cultural fronts. They pointed out that Punjab was under attack from these drug lords who are being facilitated by political leaders across the spectrum.

The speakers urged the youth to participate in activism by declaring and proclaiming that they would not tolerate the degradation of women and that they would bail Punjab out of a sinking hole.

Banners were displayed prompting the youth to work for a new Punjab, a drug free state. and make the next generation proud of Punjab.

SYP head Nobeljit Singh from Hoshiarpur said we have no doubt that the strong value system of Punjab, respect for women, standing up for the underdog (oppressed) and refraining from intoxicants will withstand the test of our time.

Delivering the key note, party’s vice head Paramjit Singh Tanda observed that confronting any socio-political issue that was being patronized by the established conservative class was never an easy task. What we need today is not standing observation or nodding of heads to address the issue but a commitment with ourselves that we can and will change the current system that is flawed.

Organization’s secretary Sukhvider Singh from Anandpur Sahib said drugs do not discriminate among Punjabis. The cancerous epidemic affects all alike. He added that the modernistic introduction of vulgarity and the diluting of values is never welcome and will be rejected by the entrepreneurial spirit of the Punjab.

Kiranjot Kaur said women make up almost half the human population and must be included in leadership positions for promoting a better understanding in society. She further said a woman is the core of a family which is the smallest unit of society, therefore her contribution is immense in inculcating moral values and spirit in the young.

Well known human rights activist Prof Jagmohan Singh in his address said Punjab today is going through difficult times.  Drug abuse is a serious concern. Lack of interest in education has taken gigantic proportions. A neo-sub-culture a la Bollywood is being foisted on us through the mega-rich producers who are not Punjabi. The degrading treatment to women of all walks of life puts a question mark on Punjabi character. The lethargy and lack of foresight of the governmental authorities is leading us nowhere.

He said that from streets to the corridors of power, from canteens to the drawing rooms, this country runs on two concepts –”chalta hai ” and “mainu ki.”  There is filth on the streets –chalta hai. There is goondaism in the colony –mainu ki. The government is not fulfilling its promises –so what can I do. Female students are being teased outside of colleges and universities –it is their problem, not mine. The neighbour’s son has become a drug addict –too bad but that family is responsible. These are our standard responses. Everyone’s problems are nobody’s problems.

Bhai Kulvir Singh BarapindJALANDHAR, Punjab (October 1, 2014)—After being acquitted in a fabricated case, Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara welcomed the release of Bhai Kulvir Singh Barapind.  He said that it was shameful that cases were being fabricated under the rule of Akali Dal (B), which is the so-called Panthik Government.

Bhai Kulvir Singh Barapind was released from Maximum security jail, Nabha, on Monday. He was received outside the jail by Party’s senior leaders Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, Harpal Singh Cheema, Amrik Singh Issru, Mandhir Singh and Manjit Singh Bamb besides rank and file of the Sikh nationalist political party..

Prior to this, a local court in Jalandhar acquitted Bhai Barapind in a two year old case. Bhai Kulvir Singh, who is also a member of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) from Phillaur segment was brought to Jalandhar from Nabha Jail to hear the decision. Additional District and Sessions Judge Mandip Singh Dhillon acquitted Bhai Kulvir Singh from all charges leveled against by the Punjab police.

On September 20, 2012, the Nawanshahr police had taken away Barapind from his residence at Barapind village.

A day later, he was illegitimately booked by the the Jalandhar Rural police under various Sections of IPC, including Section 121 (waging war against the state), Section 121-A (conspiracy to commit an offence punishable under Section 121), Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) Sections 3,4 and 5 of the Explosives Act, Section 25 of the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities Act.

The police had then claimed to have recovered a mauser pistol, six live cartridges, a night vision device, bulletproof jackets and seditious literature, including booklets and calendars carrying the photos of Bhindranwale and magazines such as “Sikh Shahadat,” “Khalsa Fatehnama,” “Paigam,” “Jang Zari Rahegi,” and “Who killed Karkare.”

The police failed to recover any explosives despite having booked Barapind under the Explosives Act.

Barapind had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court for bail.

The petition is still pending with the High Court, said his lawyer. Bhai Barapind said: “I was implicated by the Punjab government and central agencies. I was serving the Panth and had won the SGPC elections as an Independent. This annoyed the Akali leaders and they slapped false charges on me only to destroy my political career.”

VANCOUVER, Canada, USA (October 1, 2014)—There have been multiple meetings at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara over the past few days regarding the Beadbi taking place of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee’s Saroops at a Vancouver port. The Saroops were sent by the SGPC and since arriving in Vancouver have been tied up at the port for over a week. The latest reports suggest that the Saroops will be released by the Port Authority and taken to Khalsa School Newton Campus on Thursday morning.

At the meetings the Sangat declared Ripudaman Singh Malik, the man in charge of bringing the Saroops to Vancouver, a desecrater of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and has asked him to quickly appear before the Guru Khalsa Panth to answer for his crimes. They have accused him of breaking Panthik Maryada and tradition. They have declared that the Seva of the Saroops will be taken from his control and will be handled by the Gurdwara Sahibs.

A picture of the letter can be seen below as well as a video of the declaration to the Sangat:

After all of these meetings, many Sangat members have suggested that the best way to avoid such Beadbi in the future is to build a printing press in North America. Sangat will be able to print Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee with full respect to Maryada and avoid any Beadbi of shipping Saroops from India in the future. The SGPC has looked into building a Printing Press outside of India before but nothing has materialized thus far.

LUDHIANA, Punjab (October 1, 2014)—In a statement made over social media, senior High Court Advocate S. HS Phoolka and senior member of Aam Aadmi Party has asked Sukhbir Badal to tender his resignation in relation to the murder of two brothers who were shot down by police.  HS Phoolka has termed the State Government fully responsible for the duo-murders on the basis that the youth were killed due to political rivalry.

Meanwhile, Harinder Singh Khalsa of Fatehgarh Sahib and Sucha Singh Chhotepur both met the family of the deceased and expressed grief over their killings.

The following is the full text of the statement released by Aam Aadmi Party on behalf of HS Phoolka -

From the facts which have come out about the planned murder of two Dalit youths of the same family by an Akali leader in presence of and with active connivance of Punjab Police near Ludhiana on Saturday, it has now been clearly exposed how the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal is grossly misusing the Police to eliminate political rivals and is making a mockery of law and order in the state.

Delhi High Court Advocate, HS Phooka

Harinder Singh (23) and Jatinder Singh (25) were district level Kabbadi players and were pursuing their graduation studies from Samrala. According to their father Mr Satpal Singh, both the brothers were also preparing for various competitive exams.

Earlier they used to be Akali Dal workers, but in the recent Lok Sabha elections they supported the Aam Aadmi Party and they played an important role in the victory of AAP MP Harinder Singh Khalsa, from Fatehgarh Sahib.
The accused Akali leader Gurjit singh who is also the husband of Sarpanch Rajwinder Kaur of village Takhran Khokhran, developed a deep animosity with Harinder and Jatinder due to their support for the Aam Aadmi Party, and he was also jealous of their growing popularity in the village.

The accused Gurjit and his family registered false cases against the two brothers. On 27th September, the police accompanied by Gurjit singh raided the house of Harinder and Jatinder. According to eye-witness accounts, the police caught hold of both the brothers and Gurjit shot both of them at a point blank range, taking their lives.

Such cold blooded murders by Akali leaders in police presence to settle their personal and political enmity with rivals are becoming common in Punjab. These incidents are happening with the direct patronage of state Home Minister Sukhbir Badal.

Following such a gross misuse of the police to murder two innocent youths, the state Home Minister has no right to continue in his post. Aam Aadmi Party demands his immediate resignation.  The party will not remain quiet at such serious attacks on its volunteers and will launch an agitation to demand safety and security of the people of Punjab.

AAP activists led by state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur protest in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA, Punjab (October 2, 2014)—The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today held a state-wide agitation against the cold blooded murder of two young activists of the party, Harinder Singh and Jatinder Singh. The party rank and file demanded justice in this case while demonstrating at all district headquarters of Punjab against the Badal government. A memorandum was also sent to the governor of Punjab, Shivraj Patil, by the party leaders wherein they later sought the dismissal of the SAD-BJP government and a CBI probe into the matter.

Both victims are real brothers who were killed brutally by a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and three cops on Saturday in a Ludhiana fake encounter in the Jamalpur area of Ludhiana city.

The party’s state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur led the demonstration held outside the Deputy Commissioner Office in Ludhiana. In other places, the protests were staged under the leadership of local party leaders.

AAP-gurdaspur-protestIn the memorandum, AAP leaders said that “The situation of law and order is deteriorating in Punjab thereby turning it into a ‘goonda raaj’ (rule of miscreants).” Describing the extra-judicial killing of two AAP activists in a fake encounter, the Party demanded the imposition of President’s rule in Punjab. It also demanded a CBI probe into the killings.

The memorandum which was sent to the Governor through the Deputy Commissioners further reads that the struggle will be intensified by the AAP if their demands are not fulfilled.

Reacting to yesterday’s demonstration held by local politicians in support of accused policemen and ruling SAD (B) leaders, Sucha Singh Chhotepur said, “I am ashamed of Ludhiana local Congress and Akali leaders… who are justifying the killing of two brothers of Machiwara in Ludhiana by playing into the hands of the government. Does our law tell our police to kill anyone, whom they suspect is a criminal?”

US Congressional Briefing on 1984 Anti-Sikh Massacres a Success

2014-10-02- congressional meetingWASHINGTON, D.C. (October 2, 2014)—While Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Washington DC and President Obama, the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission in the U.S. Congress made history yesterday by hosting the first-ever Congressional briefing on the November 1984 anti-Sikh massacres, which claimed the lives of several thousand Sikh civilians throughout India.

According to eyewitnesses and Indian human rights activists, the killings were organized by government officials and facilitated by police officials. Thirty years later, the Modi government—like its predecessors—continues to deny justice to victims and survivors of the massacres.

Entitled ‘Thirty Years of Impunity – The November 1984 Anti-Sikh Pogroms in India,’ the briefing featured a special screening of The Widow Colony, an award-winning documentary that amplifies the voices of Sikh widows who lost loved ones during the massacres and whose struggle for justice continues to this day. After the film, a panel of experts discussed India’s failure to prosecute the architects of the violence; discussed the importance that accountability will have for India’s future; and provided recommendations for U.S. foreign policy in relation to India.

The discussion also highlighted parallels between the 1984 anti-Sikh massacres and the 2002 anti-Muslim massacres, which were facilitated by Mr. Modi’s government during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat. In both cases, according to the panelists, hatred against minorities trumped human rights and the rule of law.

Panelists at the briefing included Manoj Mitta, author of two groundbreaking books about mass state violence in India – When a Tree Shook Delhi: The 1984 Carnage and Its Aftermath and The Fiction of Fact-Finding: Modi and Godhra; Sukhman Singh Dhami, co-director of the human rights organization Ensaaf; and filmmakers Harpreet Kaur and Manmeet Singh from Sach Productions.

“Briefings like this help ensure that American lawmakers and policymakers learn the truth about unresolved human rights issues in India,” said Sapreet Kaur, Executive Director of the Sikh Coalition, which moderated the briefing. “Although the 1984 massacres were organized by Indian government and police officials, justice is still being denied 30 years later to those whose lives were affected by the violence. In this context, apologies are no substitute for prosecution. Justice delayed is justice denied.”

2014-10-02- congressional meeting 2

To get involved in the spirit of this briefing, and to ensure that the traumatic events of 1984 and the following decade are remembered in a way that translates into empowerment for the global Sikh community, the Sikh Coalition invites applications through November for our “Connecting with 1984″ Small Grants Pool. Thanks to the generosity of a group of donors, the Sikh Coalition will invest in individuals and/or groups who would like to create and deliver educational programs and initiatives to raise awareness within the Sikh community about the events of 1984 and beyond.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges Sikhs everywhere to practice their faith fearlessly.

simranjit-singh-mann3KURUKSHETRA, Haryana (October 2, 2014)—Pro-independence Sikh political party Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) which is led by Simranjit Singh Mann, on Wednesday released its manifesto here with a daring promise of stopping the khaps from giving inhuman diktats. The party has fielded six candidates in Haryana.

It is its first-ever election manifesto in Haryana in which the party also promised to ensure liquor prohibition, free education up to graduation, two times the pension being given to people above 65, Punjabi language in all schools and colleges, and 15 per cent reservation to Sikhs in government services.

The party’s general secretary Jaswant Singh Mann, while releasing the the manifesto, said that the party would try to narrow down the differences between Haryana and Punjab. He said, “We are going to the polls with the agenda of social reforms, employment, equal development and women’s empowerment.”

On being asked about challenging the khaps, he said, “We are not challenging them, they are social institutions. But we are of the view that rather than giving brutal diktats, it should adopt a lenient and pro-human nature. We will try to stop them from giving anti-human diktats.”

2014-10-02- navjotKARNAL, Haryana (October 2, 2014)—The battle of wooing Sikh voters among various political parties is intensifying as the date of polling is coming closer. Now, to counter the HSGMC card being played by Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and to garner the support of Sikhs, BJP has fielded Punjab Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Navjot Kaur Sidhu as its star campaigner in Assandh assembly segment where Bakshish Singh Virk is contesting the polls as its candidate.

The INLD will ask Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Badal to canvas for the party’s Assandh nominee Yashvir Singh Rana. So the BJP is not leaving any stone unturned in this regard at Assandh seat.

After inaugurating the party’s election office in Jundla village, the CPS visited other villages and Assandh city, and assured people that the BJP would usher in good governance in the state after coming to power.

She sought votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The Prime Minister has become a global icon. People in villages are impressed with him and they are not sceptical about the government at the Centre,” she told The Tribune. “‘Make in India’ is an initiative to bring more jobs for educated youth by attracting international companies to the country.”

To a query, she said instead of big rallies, personal interaction with voters played an important role. About her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu campaigning in the state, the CPS said she would follow the party’s directions in this regard.

Daya Singh LahoryaNEW DELHI, India (October 3, 2014)—The former member of Khalistan Liberation Force (KCF) Bhai Daya Singh Lahoria who is detained in Tihar Jail, is seriously ill and has been admitted to Hospital.

His wife Bibi Kamaljit Kaur who met him in jail has said he was ill since couple of days due to the rude attitude of jail administration which was not caring for Sikh detainees inside the jail. She said her husband was facing a serious infection and living on glucose since five days.

“He (Bhai Lahoria) was admitted to Din Dyal Hospital here on Thursday evening where police are not allowing anyone to see him. Even his family members are not permitted to meet him,” she said, adding, “I contacted president of Delhi Singh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and Parmjit Singh Rana, incharge of its Dharam Parchar wing to make them aware about the situation and asked them to take action promptly.”

As per media sources, taking action in this matter Parmjit Singh Rana has written a letter to various officers of Delhi and high officials of Tihar Jail administration asking them to ensure proper treatment of Bhai Sahib.

Rana said, “To provide aid to Singhs detained in the jail is our prime national duty and we will help Bhai Lahoria with every possible means.”

As per the latest reports, Bhai Lahoria is still in Hospital. As his family members are not being permitted to see him, nothing could be spoken about the health condition of the Sikh freedom fighter.

Prior to this, the health condition of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara who is also detained in Tihar Jail had deteriorated severely. At the first stage, the jail administration refused to provide proper medical treatment to him, but after the order of Delhi High Court, the administration had to have him admitted to AIIMS for treatment.

Ludhiana Fake Encounter: Indian Police Killing Innocent Sikhs for More Than 3 Decades

LUDHIANA, Punjab (October 3, 2014)—On 27th September 2014, Ludhiana Police as well as a member of the ruling Akali Dal (Badal) and some other ‘private armed persons’ raided the house in Jamalpur of brothers Harinder Singh (25) and Jatinder Singh (24), where they had been living for the past two months.

Earlier, Machhiwara police had registered a false case against the victims for attempted murder. This is widely believed to have been a political manoeuvre. When the brothers, who were unarmed, found the Police were at their door, they tried to escape but they were shot in the head and killed by the Police party. An eyewitness said the policemen entered the building by scaling the wall of a neighbouring house.

Initially, the incident was termed as a ‘police encounter’ by the Punjab police but afterwards the police officers started admitting that it was a case of cold blooded ‘murder.’

These kinds of inhumane tactics have been used against the Sikhs in Punjab for over three decades. Countless innocent young lives have been lost and the Punjab Police, as well as high ranking officers such as Sumedh Saini and top Punjab Government Officials such as Izhar Alam, have blood soaked hands.

A terrible precedent was set in the late 80′s whereby the Police are able to target’ whoever they wish and either throw them in prison under false charges, or simply dispose of them with complete impunity. SOPW provides support and helps fight the legal cases for 100′s of innocent Sikhs who have been made a target of State brutality. This new murder case of two innocent young brothers highlights why it is vital we raise awareness and continue the fight for justice. When you have known murderers sat in some of the top positions of the State, is it any wonder that the corruption filters all the way through the system?

CHANDIGARH, Punjab (October 3, 2014)—Vikram Kumar Babbi, resident of Dhanaula (Barnala), who hurled a shoe at Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal in a high level function on India’s independence day, is all set to become an Amritdhari Sikh. He has announced that he will go to Sri Darbar Sahib at Sri Amritsar along with his fellows to take Amrit from Panj Pyaras (Five beloved of Guru).

Speaking to media reporters, Vikram said, “I already used to think about taking Amrit, but after the incident of shoe hurling, I have realized that taking Amrit as per Sikh tenets is very necessary for fighting for the social cause as it makes the man responsible and enhances one’s self-confidence.”

“I am facing a poor fiscal condition and unemployment due to hurling a shoe toward Badal. My wife has been expelled from a private school following the incident,” he added.

It is noteworthy that after being released from the jail on bail on September 9, 2014, he has not cut his hair and has started to wear a Keski (small turban).

Activists of Dal Khalsa address media in press conference

HOSHIARPUR, Punjab (October 4, 2014)—To commemorate 30 years since the Nov 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms, the Dal Khalsa has resolved to organize a Rights and Justice March from Sri Akal Takht Sahib to Delhi based Embassy of the United Nations to seek world body intervention for justice and political resolution to the Punjab problem.

This year commemorates 30 years since the Nov 1984 pogrom. This year sees the rule of a party who is wedded to Hindutva and whose leadership wrongly suggests that they were not party to the crime against the Sikhs during this difficult times, said H S Dhami, head of the pro-independence Sikh group, while addressing the press conference here today.

“Sikhs were hounded and killed in Delhi. So, we propose to go to Delhi. We plan to march to Delhi. Not just for calls of justice but more. Not just for remembrance but more. Not just for speeches of allegations but more,” said Dhami.

During these agonizing years, the victims, their relatives and friends, the community and its concerned leadership have done whatever has been possible to get justice but to no avail.

Flanked with party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh, Dr Manjinder Singh, Dhami said Sikhs have lost all hopes in getting justice from the Indian system. He said the Nov. genocide was sponsored and patronized by the political establishment of those times, hence the state would never punish the perpetrators. Seeking UN intervention for a political solution of the crisis in Punjab, he said no doubt that punishing the perpetrators of Nov 84 was required, but “mere punishment without recourse to seeking a political resolution of the Punjab problem is like losing Crimea to Russia and then imposing sanctions.”

He said this march would remind the Indian state that just as this country continues to remember the mythical Ravana by burning his effigy on Dusshera every year, we the Sikhs will continue to remember the modern day Ravanas of the Sikhs who played the death Tandav against innocent Sikhs.

Reaching out to other ethnic minorities, Dhami told the media that they have invited the Kashmiris, the Nagas and other ethnic minorities including Christians to participate in the march as “we all have suffered oppression from same oppressor.” He added that they would seek cooperation from all like-minded Sikh organizations, mainly SAD (Panch Pardhani), Damdami Taksal, Khalsa Panchayat, United Sikh Movement, and Akhand Kirtani Jatha.

While interacting with the media, he said the march would start from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Nov 2. and passing through Ludhiana and Fatehgarh Sahib it would reach Delhi on 3rd morning. He further said the march would proceed from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara to Jantar Mantar, where a rally would be held. He said a select number of representatives within the community and other minorities would go to UN office to submit the memorandum to its officials.

Giving the call to the people of Punjab to proceed to Delhi, he said 30 years ago India –the so-called largest democracy in the world- showed its brute, shameless and satanic face when it master-minded the killing and mayhem against absolutely innocent Sikhs –men, women and children on the streets of its capital city Delhi, Kanpur and other cities across the country.

File Photo of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh KhalsaCHANDIGARH, Punjab (October 4, 2014)—Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who made the government sleepless last year by sitting a hunger strike for 45 days, has given indications that he will be taking such a step again anytime. On Wednesday, Bhai Khalsa sent a memorandum to Punjab Governor and Chief Minister seeking the prompt release of Sikh political prisoners.

He named Bhai Gurmeet Singh, Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, Bhai Shamsher Singh, Bhai Lal Singh, Bhai Waryam Singh, Bhai Gurdeep Singh and Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar in the memo whom he demanded to be released promptly.

Bhai Khalsa said, “I will not sit restfully ’til all the Sikh political prisoners who have completed their jail terms are released.” He announced to sit on hunger strike again, if no action is taken by Government in this regard.

He said with “Bandi Chhod Diwas” (Diwali) coming closer, the government should release all these prisoners. However, he did not give any clue as to where the hunger strike would be launched. He made an appeal to the Sikh community to assist him in the struggle being fought for getting the Sikh detainees released.

While expressing his displeasure over the attitude of appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, he said that last time the Jathedar asked him to end his hunger strike promising the release of Sikh prisoners, but now he would not accept any such direction.

In the absence of CM on his residence, memorandum was received by the OSD.

sukha_jindaGANGANAGAR, Rajasthan, India (October 6, 2014)—Rajasthan based Sikh Sangat will observe the martyrdom day of Sikh freedom fighters Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda who assassinated General Arun Vaidiya, at Karanpur in Ganganagar district of the state on large scale on October 9. Karanur is the native town of Bhai Sukha. A religious function will be organized to mark the martyrdom day.

The function is being organized with special efforts of Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, chief of Ajnala faction of Damdami Taksal.

The large scale religious functions are being organized at Gadli (district Amritsar), the native village of Harjinder Singh Jinda, and at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Sri Amritsar.

It is pertinent to mention that both the martyrs are popular among Sikhs as ‘Sukha-Jinda,’ who were hanged by the Indian state for assassinating General Arun Vaidiya, former chief of Indian army, under whose command the Indian army had attacked Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar, the supreme Sikh shrine, and other Sikh Gurdwaras in June 1984. They wrote a historical letter to the president of India.

In their letter, Bhai Sukha-Jinda had made it clear that they had no personal enmity with Arun Vaidya and they had followed the path shown by the Sikh history and traditions. They had admitted the assassination of Arun Vaidya and happily accepted death sentences awarded by an Indian court.

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab (October 7, 2014)—Making a reactionary statement in response to Parkash Badal’s promise of ensuring the termination of black list, Harvinder Singh Sarna, general secretary of SAD (Delhi), has said that the statement made by the Punjab CM in this regard is astonishing.

He said, “It was the Badal government that termed Prof. Devinderpal Singh Bhullar a “deadly terrorist” in order to prevent his shifting into Punjab citing risk of disturbing environment of the state. On the other hand, he is talking about taking up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Mr. Sarna said the efforts to terminate “black list” had begun to be made in 2007 when Parmjit Singh Sarna was chief of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).

The letter is still available in DSMGC record, wherein the union government made it aware of the fact that with the efforts of Parmjit Singh Sarna, names of Sikh youths have been deleted from the black list but the Badal government of Punjab did not like it. The latter wrote to the center government to include the names again in the list apprehending that environment of the state could be disturbed with the return of these guys.

He said this letter was also available with the reporters of Delhi.

He said that Badal’s statement in this regard was unbelievable as he himself did not set free the Sikh youths who have completed their jail terms. He said the center government should make the letter public wherein the Badal government urged the former to revive the black list that had been terminated partially.
