
MOHALI, Punjab—Amid ongoing winter vacations in the Sessions Court, arrested Scottish Sikh youth Jagtar Singh Johal was today presented before the Duty Magistrate Ms. Girish by the NIA. The NIA sought 10 days extension in remand of Jagtar Singh Johal but the court extended his remand for 7 days asking the investigating team to reproduce Jagtar Singh on January 2.
Interacting with media, Defence counsel Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur informed that Jagtar Singh Johal was brought to Court by the NIA from New Delhi. He added that the NIA had taken Jagtar Singh Johal to New Delhi on December 23 but he was kept in dark by the NIA team in this concern.
Advocate Manjhpur further informed that he along with Advocate Barjinder Singh Sodhi strongly opposed the NIA’s demand but still the court extended Jagtar Singh’s remand for further seven days. “Initially, the Court extended his remand for two days asking the NIA to present him before the NIA’s Special Court of Ms. Anshul Berry on December 28 but later on the request of NIA the Court extended Jaggi’s remand for seven days,” he added.
Advocate Manjhpur informed that after Court appearance he talked to Jaggi and observed that he was mentally drained. He didn’t appear alert and responsive as earlier. “Although I had sought independent medical examination of Jagtar Singh Johal from a psychologist and psychiatrist during last hearing in the Court and the NIA had told Court to lodge reply today but still the NIA evaded the situation by asking the Court that it couldn’t get time to prepare reply in this concern.
