MOHALI, Punjab—Jagtar Singh Johal (Jaggi), who was sent to a 3 day remand in murder case of Shiv Sena leader Durga Prasad in Khanna, will appear before the court tomorrow.  On December 19, the investigation team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the probe of the serial murders that in occurred in Punjab under reference no. RC / 25 / 2017 / DLI.

Jagtar Singh Johal was arrested on November 4, 2017, while out shopping with his wife in Rama Mandi in Jalandhar city in Jalandhar district by the Punjab police.  He has since had over 15 court appearances and the Punjab police has not yet submitted any concrete evidence against him.

While international human rights organizations, including Ensaaf and Redress have expressed deep concern over possible torture by the Punjab police, UK based MPs have continued to seek a fair trial for the Scottish Sikh.

MP Martin Docherty, who had earlier taken up Jagtar Singh’s case, once again retreated his support.

“Deeply concerned about the arrest and imprisonment in India of my constituent Jagtar Singh Johal. I have given my full support to Jagtar’s family here in West Dunbartonshire and will be doing all I can as their MP to help resolve the matter.”

Preet Kaur Gill has also continued to support this case and has sought Jagtar Singh Johal’s release.

MP Martin Docherty and MP Preet Kaur Gill wrote to Mark Field, Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific Foreign Office, last week asking him to withdraw his insensitive comment and apologise to the family of Jagtar Singh Johal.  MP Mark Field had earlier refuted torture claims and save that Jagtar Singh Johal was doing fine in Punjab police custody.
