BARNALA, Punjab—Shortly after being elected President of the Shiromai Akali Dal, Gobind Singh Longowal promised that he would make efforts to sort out the clash between Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal and Sikh preacher Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwala. He added that he was committed to bring the entire Sikh community onto a common platform. He also promised to take up the issue of Sikh political prisoners languishing in jails across Punjab
Gobind Singh Longowal said that the infighting between Dhadrianwale and Dhumma has gone too far and it was time to close the matter. “I will make every effort to pacify both groups and resolve the issue at its earliest,” he added.

Speaking with Sikh24 on December 3, Gobind Singh Longowal further said that he was deliberating upon a plan to attract the young generation towards Sikhi. “We have decided to facilitate special relaxations to Sikh students in the SGPC run educational institutions,” he added.
On being asked about being held guilty for begging votes from rapist Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Longowal once again refuted the allegations. He added that he had served the punishment addressed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib Authorities as he didn’t find it adequate to challenge the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib at that time. “But I had submitted clarification in this regard to the Takht Jathedars,” he added.
