
NEW DELHI, India—A five member delegation of SGPC officials on May 17 met the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi and handed over a memorandum to him about Sikh issues. Under the leadership of President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar, the SGPC delegation raised the issues of political Sikh prisoners, reconstruction of Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib at Hardwar, recovery of historical Sikh scriptures of Sikh Reference Library, atrocities on Sikligar Sikhs in Madhya Pradesh and termination of black list of Sikhs before the Indian President.
Speaking to Sikh24, SGPC’s General Secretary S. Amarjit Singh Chawla informed us the Indian President was also appealed to process a mercy petition filed by the SGPC seeking the cancellation of the death sentence of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. Rajoana is a death row convict in the ‘Beanta’ assassination case.
He further shared that the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee was also told to intervene in the investigation of the serial sacrilege incidents occurring in Punjab during 2015 and unearth conspirators behind them.
Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh, SGPC’s executive member Surjit Singh Bhittewind and Paramjit Singh were also part of this delegation.
