AMRITSAR SAHIB—Speaking with sikh24, SGPC member Rajinder Singh Mehta informed that the meeting with the Uttrakhand Chief Minister went really well.  “We are hopeful that the Gurdwara will be reconstructed soon,” Mehta told Sikh24.  “We asked him to grant land on Har Ki Pauri so the Gurdwara can be constructed.”

An SGPC constituted committee on April 7 met the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand seeking reconstruction of Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahib at Har Ki Paorhi in Haridwar.  SGPC member Rajinder Singh Mehta, Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh and Additional Secretary Harbhajan Singh Manawa were part of the special delegation that met with U’Khand Chief Minister.

Rajinder Singh Mehta told Sikh24 that the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat has seriously considered the matter and has promised to provide land at Har Ki Paorhi.

It is pertinent to note here that during fourth ‘Udaasi’, the founder of the Sikh religion Guru Nanak Dev Ji had taught lesson of humanity at Haridwar. Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahib was established in the memory of Guru Nanak Sahib’s valuable teachings at Har Ki Paorhi in Haridwar. The Gurdwara was demolished while carrying out the beautification project of Ganga River.

Earlier, the SGPC had appealed numerous times to the Uttarakhand government to provide land for the reconstruction of Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahib but the former governments didn’t take any action. Now, with the formation of a new government in Uttarakhand the SGPC has once again stepped up its efforts.
