AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Speaking with Sikh24 on Tuesday, March 17, SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar confirmed that Capt. Amarinder Singh will be honoured when he pays obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib.
“Yes, I understand that at one point the SGPC refused to honour Capt. Amarinder Singh, however, times are different now,” he told Sikh24.com.
In 2010, the SGPC had issued strict directions to the management of Gurdwara Dukh Niwarn Sahib for not giving Siropa Capt. Amarinder Singh. The direction was issued by SGPC chief at that time, Avtar Makkar. Makkar had alleged that Captain was trying to break the SGPC.
Similarly, in 2002 Captain had to face similar treatment at Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib when he was given prashaad wrapped in a siropa. Giani Tirlochan Singh had refused to put siropa around his neck during the Hola Mohalla celebrations.
Moving past previous issues, Prof. Badungar said that newly elected Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh will be honoured by the SGPC whenever he will come to pay obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib. He has said that the SGPC always honour the significant personalities whenever they come to pay obeisance at the central Sikh shrine. He also said that the SGPC will fully cooperate with newly elected Congress government at every step.
