CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Punjab & Haryana High Court has summoned the case diaries of the FIR (First Information Report) registered by the Ludhiana police in relation to the deadly attack on Sikh preacher Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale. Notably, Dhadrianwale was attacked near Ludhiana by activists related to Damdami Taksal (Dhumma) in which his close aide Bhai Bhupinder Singh was shot dead.
Hearing the petition moved by a supporter of Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwala, the High Court bench represented by Justice Fatehdeep Singh ordered the Ludhiana police to produce case diaries of the FIR. Justice Fatehdeep Singh took the move after the Dhadrianwale’s counsel leveled allegations that the Police were not acting against the alleged mastermind of attack Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma under political influence.
The petitioner’s counsel also said that some pertinent witnesses in the case had deposed before the Police that the Sikh seminary under leadership of Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma and his close associates were involved in orchestrating the attack but the Police didn’t even try to interrogate him.
The prosecution’s counsel also told the Court that he was receiving threats from unidentified elements asking him to give up the case.
It may be recalled here that the Police had earlier told the Court that 14 arrests were made in relation to the attack on Sikh preacher Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale and further investigations were taking place in the case.
