AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Sikh activists from Jammu handed over a memorandum on July 9th to SGPC Secretary Dr. Roop Singh seeking the installation of a portrait of Shaheed Bhai Jashjit Singh Jammu in the Central Sikh Museum.  Shaheed Bhai Jashjit Singh Jammu fell victim to bullets fired by the police contingents on peacefully protesting Sikhs in Jammu on June 4, 2015.

At the time of police firing, Sikh activists were peacefully protesting against hooliganism of the police personnel for disrespecting the photo of the great Sikh of the 20th century, Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale.

Talking with Sikh24’s correspondent, the Chief Organizing Secretary of Youth Akali Dal Amritsar, S. Papalpreet Singh, informed us that the SGPC Secretary Dr. Roop Singh promised that they will be installing the portrait of Shaheed Bhai Jashjeet Singh Jammu in the Central Sikh Museum.

“The SGPC didn’t take any move to deliver on its promise despite the passage of more than a year.  SGPC had earlier promised to install the portrait last year,” Papalpreet Singh said.  He informed us that the memorandum has been submitted to remind SGPC of its promise.  “Due to absence of Dr. Roop Singh in office, SGPC’s Superintendent received the memorandum,” he added.

Bhai Ajmeet Singh (President, Sikh Noujwan Sabha), Bhai Gursharan Singh Sohal, Bhai Navdeep Singh Amritsar, and Bhai Dilbag Singh Nagoke were present on this occasion.
