CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Punjabi singer turned politician Jassi Jasraj has refused to comment on his dismissal from the Aam Aadmi Party.  Jasraj was expelled from the Aam Aadmi Party on April 8 allegedly for anti-party activities.

He had contested the Lok Sabha elections of 2014 from Bathinda constituency in which he had secured 87,901 votes standing third in a triangular competition with Harsimrat Badal and Manpreet Badal.  He was assumed as the game spoiler for Manpreet Badal who had lost the seat by 19,395 votes.

While an official dismissal letter has not been sent to Jassi Jasraj, AAP’s Punjab state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur stated that Jassi Jasraj was warned many times.  “We had asked him to work to promote the party and not make allegations publicly without discussing internally first,” said Chhotepur.

Chhotepur alleged that Jassi Jasraj had started organizing parallel programs to official party programs.  He further added that the AAP volunteers as well as the senior leadership were not being taken into confidence for organizing programs.  “We have been receiving complaints against Jassi Jasraj from a long time.  We didn’t find a solution and had to take this step to maintain discipline within the party,” he added.

Sucha Singh Chhotepur also alleged that Jassi Jasraj was regularly making defamatory statements against other party leaders that were damaging the Aam Aadmi Party’s image across Punjab.
