CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Punjab & Haryana High Court today passed a ruling asking the Punjab Government to ensure the deadbody of Ashutosh Jha is cremated before May of 2016. The decision was taken in response to a reply filed by the Punjab Government, in which, it was stated that the DJJS had formed a committee to decide over the cremation.
In its ruling, the High Court has directed the Punjab government to make sure that the newly constituted committee will take decision till May month of this year.
The State government of Punjab had filed its reply to the Punjab & Haryana High Court on March 15 about the controversy over delaying the cremation. Lawyer of Punjab government informed the Court that the management of DJJS has constituted a committee to take decision about cremation of Ashutosh’s dead body.
Ashutosh Jha was the chief of the DJJS before he passed away due to cardian arrest. His dead body has been kept in a freezer by his followers who feel certain that Jha is in deep meditation and his soul will return. Ashutosh’s son, Dilip Jha had earlier moved a petition in the Punjab & Haryana High Court seeking permission to perform his father’s final rites. The Punjab & Haryana High Court’s bench led by Justice M.S. Bedi had ordered the Punjab government to intervene in the matter to ensure cremation of the dead body.
