
CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Bhai Papalpreet Singh’s next court hearing is set to take place on February 29. Bhai Papalpreet Singh was charged under sedition charges for taking part in the Sarbat Khalsa 2015. Following arrests of various Sikh leaders who participated in the Sarbat Khalsa, Bhai Papalpreet Singh went into hiding. He has so far remained at an unknown place to escape arrest.
Bhai Papalpreet Singh is very active in human and social rights issues. He is known and respected across the world for rebuilding houses of Sikh martyr families that were affected from 1984 to early 1990s during the Sikh freedom movement. Bhai Papalpreet Singh is also active in media initiatives.
Along with Papalpreet Singh, 19 other Sikhs were also indicted in the same FIR registered by Punjab police. After rejection from the Session Courts of Amritsar on January 29, the bail plea of Bhai Papalpreet Singh was moved in the High Court in the first week of February. During last hearing on the case, the High Court had asked for the video of Bhai Papalpreet Singh addressing the letter of Bhai Narain Singh Chaura to the gathering of ‘Sarbat Khalsa-2015’.
The High Court today conducted debate on the case and recorded versions of defense and prosecution lawyers.
