FATEHGARH SAHIB, Punjab—As the SGPC President Avtar Makkar started addressing Sikh devotees at Gurdwara Jyoti Saroop Sahib, outraged Sikhs didn’t let him deliver his address and forced him to flee by drowning out his voice with pro-Khalistan slogans. The situation worsened when the Sikh devotees also didn’t allow the now removed Jathedar, Giani Gurbachan Singh, to address the Sikh sangat. Both of them were shown black flags by the protesting Sikh masses.
Security personnel quickly managed to remove Avtar Makkar and Giani Gurbachan Singh to a secured place to avoid any untoward incidents. Meanwhile, SGPC’s Executive member Karnail Singh Panjoli tried to pacify the protesting Sikh but his efforts didn’t bear any fruit as protestors refused to relent and continued reciting slogans.
SGPC President Avtar Makkar called the protestors miscreants, who didn’t want to pay obeisance to the incomparable martyrdom of Shote Sahibzaade.
Controversial moves by the Badal appointed Akat Takht Jathedars and SGPC authorities in the past months has destroyed any respect with the Sikh nation.
Following the shocking grant of an non-requested pardon to Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Takht Jathedars and SGPC officials are facing public protests at nearly all functions they attend.
SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar was recently barred from addressing the gathering at ‘Safr-i-Shahadat’ function held at Thandi Burj in Fatehgarh Sahib too.
