CHANDIGARH, Punjab (December 23, 2013)—Today, we were expecting the parole release of Shamsher Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Gurmit Singh. However, the Jail Authorities inform us that the paperwork for Lakhwinder Singh and Gurmit Singh could not be completed in time, so all three of them will not be released today but the authorities have assured us that the release will hopefully take place tomorrow.
We are told the reason behind the delay is because their files need to go to their respective DC regional offices, for a signature. Shamsher Singh’s file was already being prepared for parole, so his paperwork was ready and signed. The procedure for parole also requires a signature from the SSP of the local police station.
The Government and jail authorities have stated that these formalities have to be completed before they can be released and SOPW will of course, closely monitor their progress until the promises materialise.
