
TARN TARAN, Punjab—Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala along hundreds of Sikh protesters today announced to continue blockade of Harike bridge till all their demands are met in case of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. As a result, the bridge that connects Majha and Malwa region, continued to be blocked.
Prior to this, after being assured by the Police officials of thorough investigations in the cases of sacrilege incidents, Sikh leaders today agreed to lift the blockade from the bridge on the side of Makhu town. However, the bridge could not be opened due to continuation of blockade that entered 8th day, on other side of the bridge on which other section of Sikh protesters refused to lift sit-in. After some time, number of protesters resumed the demonstration on other side as well.
Around 3 PM, Ferozpur deputy commissioner DPS Kharbanda and SSP Hardyal Singh Mann along with other senior officials conducted a meeting with the Sikh leaders. Baba Shinder Singh Sabhrawan, Baba Hari Singh, Baba Partap Singh (representative of Baba Avtar Singh Sursingh wale), Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala (Damdami Taksal Ajnala), Bhai Sukhwinder Singh (Guru Granth Sahib Satkar committee Haryana), Baba Balwinder Singh (kar sewa wale) and Baba Manga Singh (Hazoor Sahib) were the leaders that met were the police at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib Sabhra, near Harike headworks.
In the meeting, the officials assured the Sikh leaders to meet their demands and sought the time of one month to complete investigation into the matter to unearth real conspiracy behind the sacrilege incidents.
In view of prolonged dharna which has led to great inconvenience to the commuters, and words given by administration to take action, the Sikh leaders had agreed upon to lift dharna.
