AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab (June 14, 2015)—After a jatha of 750 Sikhs who left yesterday, another Jatha led by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) former president Paramjit  Sarna has crossed the border to take part in shaheedi purab commamorations.  A 450-member Jatha (group) of Sikh pilgrims crossed over to Pakistan via road route to observe the Martyrdom Day of Guru Arjan Dev Jee as per the original Nanakshahi Calendar on June 16.

After paying obeisance at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, the Sikh pilgrims will visit Gurdwara Panja Sahib. Then, they will visit Gurdwara Dehra Sahib in Lahore on June 16. Here, Bhog ceremony of Sri Akhand Path Sahib will be held to mark Gurpurb on June 16.

Sarna said that this was the first time that a Jatha comprising so many pilgrims had been permitted to visit Pakistan based Sikh shrines via the road route. Sarna said the ‘kar sewa’ of Gurdwara Dehra Sahib would also begin the same day. Under the Kar Sewa, a large portion of the existing Gurdwara premises would be reconstructed.
