Sikhs protesting against Police inaction

FARIDKOT, Punjab (June 12, 2015)—Led by noted Sikh preacher and Panthik Sewa Lehar head Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Sikh Sangat held demonstration against Police inaction into the theft of a sacred bir of Sri Guru Granth Sahib from a Gurdwara at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village of Faridkot.

It is worth mentioning that even a week after the theft, the police have failed to trace the holy bir and arrest the guilty. The holy bir was stolen on June 1 afternoon when the Granthi Singh of the Gurdwara went to a neighbouring village. An FIR was registered against unknown persons.

The Sikh Sangat also held a protest march demanded rigid action against the accused of the theft which hurt Sikh sentiments deeply. Along with his supporters, Damdami Taksal (Ajnala) chief Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala and heads other Sikh organizations also participated in the demonstration.

The Sikh activists assembled at the Gurdwara morning and announced to stage protest outside the SSP and DC’s office, but heavy police force deployed on the road stopped them from moving ahead.

On June 5, many religious Sikh leaders including Baba Daduwal reached village and gave an ultimatum to the police to trace the holy “Bir” or they would start an agitation.

Fridkot SSP Charanjit Sharma said in the last one week, they had searched every house in Buraj Jawahar village. “Besides, a 4-acre pond in the village was emptied to rule out dumping of the holy Bir on high alert. We have now constituted a special investigation team (SIT) for this task,” he added.
