NEW DELHI, India (February 11, 2015)—Panthik organizations have welcomed the victory of Aam Aadmi Party candidate and former senior journalist Jarnail Singh from Rajouri Garden. He defeated Akali Dal Badal’s sole candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa with a margin of 10036 votes. Sirsa got 44,881 votes, whereas Jarnail Singh 54,916.
Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh had appealed to Sikh voters to ensure the victory of Jarnail Singh. He also took part in a rally of Aam Aadmi Party in support of Jarnail Singh.
In contrast, the entire Akali Dal team from Punjab and Delhi rallied for Sirsa’s victory and tried to use cheap tactics to malign Jarnail Singh’s image.
Jarnail Singh came in limelight for hurling shoe at the then Indian Home Minister P. Chindabram protesting against inaction in case of 1984 Sikh genocide. He was favoured by many in the elections, however Sirsa has a large fan base in the constituency. The battle was tough for Jarnail Singh, however he came out victorious despite the fact that
Manjinder Sirsa was richest candidate of all the candidates in the New Delhi Assembly elections. He is currently the vice-president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).
